Stacy DVD Movie Review

Stacy is a feeble attempt at a parody of zombie movies. This movie is an adaptation of Kenji Otsuki's novel about Japanese schoolgirl zombies. Sometime between the ages of 15 and 17, these girls experience a phase called "Near Death Happiness" or "NDH". This "NDH" is a period of pure bliss that lasts for about two weeks. After this phase, the girls immediately die and come back as zombies and, in keeping with current zombie movie trends, the only way to dispose of these zombies is by cutting them into little pieces.

When one of the girls afflicted with NDH is on screen cheerful elevator music plays in the background. These scenes matched with this music were intended to be whimsical and cute. Instead, they are just annoying. The music and sound effects in this movie are terrible.

Stacy also has some of the worst makeup and special effects I have seen. The zombie killing troops' gunfire is obviously computer generated. The crew did not even bother to hide the poor quality of the gore effects. The body parts used in these scenes are made of cheap latex that is not even remotely convincing. The "Butterfly Twinkle Powder" element is completely nonsensical and comes from way out of left field. The only redeeming quality of this movie is the nods to zombie movies that are actually worth watching.

Stacy was intended to be a parody of zombie movies. With its shoddy effects and awful sound, this movie is more of a parody of cinema as a whole. The plot of this movie is innovative. The idea of something as adorable and innocent as Japanese schoolgirls becoming flesh-eating zombies is hilarious. This movie has blood, guts, Japanese schoolgirls, and zombies and some way still manages to be terrible.
